GPA Calculator — Calculate Your Cumulative Grade Point Average

A GPA Calculator (Grade Point Average Calculator) helps students instantly compute their weighted cumulative GPA based on their course grades and credit hours. Whether you're tracking your academic standing after midterms, planning what grades you need to maintain your scholarship, or applying to graduate school, your GPA is a critical metric.

This calculator supports the standard 4.0 GPA scale used by most universities in the US, Canada, India (CGPA converted), and other international institutions.

How is GPA Calculated?

GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credit Hours) / Σ (Credit Hours)

Each course is weighted by its credit hours. A 4-credit course has double the impact of a 2-credit course on your final GPA. This is called a weighted GPA.

Frequently Asked Questions — GPA Calculator

What GPA do I need for a scholarship?

Most merit scholarships require a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B average), while top competitive scholarships and honors programs often require 3.5 or higher. Graduate school programs in the US typically look for a minimum GPA of 3.0 in your undergraduate studies.

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA (Grade Point Average) typically refers to a single semester's performance. CGPA (Cumulative GPA) is the weighted average of all semesters combined. In India, many universities use a 10-point CGPA scale instead of the 4.0 scale used in the US.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

Most Indian universities use: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (for a 10-point scale). For a 4.0 scale: Percentage ≈ GPA × 25. Always check your institution's official conversion formula.

Does one bad grade ruin my GPA?

One bad grade has more impact on a lower credit hour course than a higher one. A C (2.0) in a 3-credit course brings your GPA down less than a C in a 4-credit course. Retaking the course and replacing the grade is often the best remedy if your institution allows grade replacement.
